River District Certification and Weatherization

Certification process

The process for obtaining Catawba River District certification is designed to be both thorough and sensitive to the needs of the applicant as well as the district.

The certification process has several steps.

Step 1 - Contact the River District. Let us know that you are interested in obtaining River District Certification for a property or building. We will meet with you to talk through your plans and to discuss, in general, the benefits and requirements of Certification.

Step 2 - Register your intent to certify your property or building. This entails completing a form that describes your property or building and registers your intent to pursue certification. A small fee is also required. Download the Registration form, fee structure and time line below.

Step 3 – Create your plan with guidance from the River District staff. We will work with you to make sure that your work plan, whether for a subdivision, new building or renovation, complies with our requirements.

Step 4 - Complete your work plan. The River District staff will monitor your progress and be available for technical support.

Step 5 – Receive Certification review and approval. Once you have completed your work plan, River District staff will review your work to confirm that everything has been done as required. Once the staff signs off, and you have paid the Certification fee, the River District will award certification.

Step 6 – Undergo annual review and renewal. River District Certification requires that buildings and properties continue to meet our standards year after year. Property owners will have a set period of time to fix any issues uncovered during the review, or lose certification.
