The River District Friends Pledge

I pledge to work toward reducing my waste stream, improving my energy efficiency, reducing my water usage and improving my outdoor water stewardship in efforts to better my community and make my contribution towards environmental sustainability.

I will strive to meet these guidelines:

• Recycle to the maximum available in my community.

• Set my thermostat close to 68 degrees F. (or lower) in the winter for heat and 75 degrees F. (or higher) in the summer for cooling.

• Turn off lights in unoccupied rooms.

• Turn off the water in the sink while I’m brushing my teeth.

• Put no more fertilizer on my lawn than recommended in the directions.

• Volunteer for one conservation-related community event each year.

• Read my monthly water and power bills to know what my usage is.

• Commit to take one conservation-related course in the coming year.

• Share what I have learned with others and listen as children share what they learn in school about environmental stewardship.

• Tell at least one person about the Catawba River District and its initiatives.

Why we ask you to take the River District Friends Pledge

Our actions speak louder than any words. That is why we ask everyone who becomes a River District Friend to agree to ACT in ways that will protect our environment.

Experts with our local water utilities helped shape the River District Friends Pledge and guidelines. You should not find anything that's new or difficult to follow, yet our experts say that when many of us take these steps, we truly will improve the quality of our natural world.

Please print, post and discuss

We ask that you print the pledge and post it in a conspicuous place, such as a home fridge or work bulletin board. We also ask you to share the pledge with your family or employees and encourage them to do their part in protecting our environment.
