April 9-10 - Spring Plant Sale at Stowe Botanical Garden
Get hard-to-find plants and garden accessories at the region's top botanical garden, 9 a.m.-3 p.m. April 9-10.
The Spring Plant Sale will feature an array of Southern landscape and garden plants that are well adapted to withstand the challenging conditions in Carolina Gardens. Vendors will offer native and well-adapted annuals and perennials, tropical plants, landscape shrubs and trees, herbs, garden supplies, drought tolerant plants and much more.
Cost: You must pay for admission to the garden to attend the plant sale. The garden is at 6500 S. New Hope Road, Belmont.

April 28 - Catawba River Women's Group monthly luncheon
Great ideas for saving our planet need to be nurtured and developed. Learn how UNC Charlotte's IDEAS Center seeks to carry out that mission at the April 28 luncheon of the Catawba River Women's Group.
Dr. Helene Hilger, the center's director, will discuss how the center seeks to speed the shift from unsustainable infrastructure, housing, and technology design to practices more attuned to 21st century demands.
The Catawba River Women's Group seeks to bring together women to create a sense of unity among the communities along the Catawba River. The group focuses on sustainable healthy lifestyles and development, service to the community, regionalism and creation of an active voice for a unified community.
Time and place: The April 28 luncheon will take place 11:45 a.m.-1 p.m. at Pine Island Country Club, 1701 Stoneyridge Drive near I-485 and Mount Holly Road. A gathering time begins at 11:30 a.m. CLICK HERE for a map to the country club.

April 15-16 - Spring Festival at Whitewater Center
Come out on April 15 and 16 to fill up on sunshine, music, and thrills at the U.S. National Whitewater Center’s weekend-long music and paddling extravaganza! Join in on the excitement as paddlers compete for places on the 2012 Whitewater Slolam Olympic Team. Also explore the ropes course, climbing wall, and biking and hiking trails.
After a day of out-door adventure, jam out on Friday night with JJ Grey & Mofro. Then come back Saturday to replay all the fun with Lucero.
Cost: Tickets, good for both Friday and Saturday shows, and are $20 online at usnwc.org, or $25 at the door.

May 21 - Riverbound Race Series Continues
Runners, celebrate the outdoors as you compete! Join NC Outward Bound and the U.S. National Whitewater Center.
The Series offers challenges for every level of runner from a 5K to a half-marathon.
Races take place in 400 acres of wooded parkland surrounding the U.S. National Whitewater Center on courses designed by Neal Boyd of Charlotte Sports Cycling.
Event organizers expect to draw close to 2,000 participants. The first races were held on March 12.
Time and place: Races will take place rain or shine on May 21, July 16, and Sept. 24. The U.S. National Whitewater Center is at 5000 Whitewater Center Parkway, along the Catawba River in Mecklenburg County, just north of I-85.

April 9 - Oceans 11 at Schiele Museum
Celebrating the 21st anniversary of Earth Day at the museum, the event kicks off with an Ocean- themed parade down Garrison Boulevard.
From 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., visitors can discover the value of water to our planet. Visit vendor and exhibitor displays, take part in activities for the kids, see live animals and more. Enjoy special performances throughout the day, food, drinks and visit the GeoDome!

April 16 - Charlotte Clean and Green at CPCC
Charlotte Clean and Green 2011 will be bigger, better and greener this year as it returns to the Central Campus of Central Piedmont Community College, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, April 16
Charlotte Clean and Green is the premier environmental and sustainability focused event in the Charlotte Mecklenburg region.
The event will include:
• Seminars on home efficiency, green living, green remodeling and building and green careers.
• Hands-on Learning tent with emphasis on home and community gardening.
• Exhibitors showcasing green products, services and ideas.
• Great food featuring fresh local fare prepared through a collaborative effort of Charlotte culinary students and professional chefs.
• Activities for kids and teens including arts and crafts in partnership with Sensoria.
• Vegetable plants will be available to buy, with proceeds benefitting Hope Haven.
Place: CPCC's main campus is on Elizabeth Avenue, just south of downtown Charlotte.
