About Catawba River District Partners
Catawba River District Partners is a regional organization committed to sustainable community and economic development, with special focus on STEM-focused learning.
Our group first focused on communities along the Catawba River in Mecklenburg and Gaston Counties, which we named the Catawba River District. The River District has served as an incubator for programs aimed at increasing STEM learning opportunities, especially for children from lower-income neighborhoods.
Several schools now have active schoolyard gardens for teaching STEM lessons, including Whitewater and River Oaks Academies, Whitewater Middle School and West Mecklenburg High School.
Two schools now have special STEM focus: Mountain Island Academy and Coulwood Middle STEM Academy.
Community, business and education partners have played key roles in creating this holistic approach to sustainability, community and economic development, and education.
